Is winter worth it?
Winter brings fewer visitors and crisp air, and after snow Tianmen Mountain looks even more majestic; with rime and a sea of clouds it seems like a wonderland. For those who love quiet and photography, winter has its own charm.
What to see
- Rime and snow: when low temperatures meet moisture, branches and cliffs are coated in ice crystals;
- Cloud seas and sunrises: the atmosphere is stable in winter and clear-morning cloud seas are quite likely;
- Quiet and uncrowded: with the peak season over, the cableway and walkways are far more relaxed.
Travel tips
- The summit can drop below freezing — wear a down jacket, hat and gloves and non-slip shoes;
- Walkways and steps may freeze — go slowly, hold the handrail and use shoe spikes if needed;
- The cableway and glass walkway may close temporarily for wind or ice — follow the park’s notice;
- It gets dark early — enter early and head back early.
