Where to stay: three zones
- Around the scenic area: closest to the entrances, good for early starts and less travel; some rooms overlook the falls; peak-season prices are higher and rooms scarce.
- Huangguoshu town: a concentration of dining, shopping and lodging with good value and a short drive to the site — suits most visitors.
- Anshun city: the widest choice and best amenities, good if you also plan Anshun Old Town and Longgong, but a longer daily commute.
Booking tips
- Peak season (summer holidays, National Day) tightens supply — book early;
- Before booking, confirm transport and drive time to the entrance and whether pickup is offered;
- Rely on live rates and room status, and check what a "mountain/cascade view" actually sees.
Anshun food
- Bingjiang: a signature chilled dessert, icy and smooth;
- Duoduo fen: rice noodles with broth and dip, tangy and appetising;
- Spicy dried tofu shreds and cold snacks: common street food with bold flavour;
- Locals call strolling and snacking "guo jie diao" — walk the north side of Rulin Road southward, turn at Gufu Street into the lanes, and you'll find long-standing shops that are cheap and authentic.
Dining notes
- Food inside the site is limited — eat at the visitor centre or nearby before heading up;
- Carry water and high-energy snacks for long walks or climbs;
- Ask for less spice if you are sensitive to heat.
