Zhangjiajie has been named to the list of China international characteristic tourism destinations, joining 29 other destinations in a development phase. The work centres on internationalisation, distinctive character and quality, covering resource protection, image promotion, richer products and better facilities.
The programme is expected to run for about two years before results are reviewed. For Zhangjiajie, the selection recognises the uniqueness of its resources and is set to lift scenic-area services and international visitor facilities to a higher level.
