A karst secret famed for its “through-caves”
The Getu River through-cave area in Ziyun, Anshun, covers about 56.8 square kilometres in several linked parts. Karst forms are complete here, led by through-cave clusters and blending gorge rivers, native vegetation and Miao culture.
Through-caves and the valley
The large and small through-caves are the signature. Huge openings arch across the sky like natural gateways, light spilling through onto the rushing river and the green hillsides — a striking scene prized by photographers and hikers.
Miao culture and climbing
Miao communities live in the area, their dress, songs and customs adding human colour to the karst. The cliffs also make it a spot for rock climbing, with established sites drawing enthusiasts.
Practical notes
- Route: the area is large — combine a shuttle and paths, and wear comfortable hiking shoes;
- Safety: gorge and cave terrain is complex — keep to open routes and do not enter closed areas;
- Culture: respect local customs in villages and follow on-site guidance.
