Why add a day or two nearby
Anshun is known for karst landforms and diverse culture. Beyond Huangguoshu, the area has caves, Tunpu towns, a karst cave cluster and historic districts that complement the waterfall and combine well into a fuller trip.
Longgong (Dragon Palace)
On the southern edge of Anshun city, it is known for water caves and underground rivers — a boat ride into the cave reveals a fantasy world of stalactites and an underground river, with waterfalls, peaks, cliffs and fields in one park. Mild in spring and winter and cool in summer, it suits all seasons.
Tianlong Tunpu cultural area
Around Pingba, it comprises the Tunpu old town and the Tianshan ancient buildings. The town preserves Ming–Qing Jianghuai-style stone architecture and Tunpu culture; you can see old lanes, historic houses and folk displays, and watch the distinctive Dixi opera. The temple complex on Tianshan blends into the rock and is praised as a model of stone architecture.
Getu River cave area
In the Ziyun area, its signature is a series of "through-caves," combining gorge rivers, native vegetation and ethnic culture. A boat trip on the underground river and seeing the big through-cave and its swallows is a unique experience; in certain seasons and times a shaft of light — the "heaven-and-earth spirit light" — pours through, mysterious and spectacular.
Anshun Old Town historic district
In the centre of Anshun, stone-slab lanes interlace with old-style houses and many heritage buildings. It keeps the city's historic depth while gathering dining, shopping and leisure — good for an evening stroll and snacks.
Balinghe Bridge (en-route)
A mountain gorge bridge not far from Huangguoshu with wide views, a popular en-route stop; a bridge-themed science hall nearby suits families.
