Why the Water Curtain Cave needs its own booking

The cave path is narrow, has special terrain and is one-way. For safety and experience, it uses real-name timed booking with a daily cap. So a main ticket does not guarantee cave entry — you must book a visiting slot separately.

How to book more reliably

  • Complete real-name booking online in advance and choose a slot on the same day as your main ticket where possible;
  • If you bought elsewhere, book the cave time slot separately after your main ticket is confirmed;
  • Slots go until full; when a day shows no slots, it is full — adjust date or time;
  • Book the cave slot together with your ticket and plan your timing.

Queues and duration

  • Peak-hour queue: about 60–90 minutes;
  • Cave visit: about 30–40 minutes;
  • The path is narrow, wet and one-way; walk behind the falls and return along the outer path.

Notes inside the cave

  • Wet floor and heavy mist — bring rain gear and wear non-slip shoes;
  • Enter at your booked slot, not earlier or later;
  • Space is limited — mind your step and keep moving;
  • Seniors, children and those with limited mobility should judge for themselves and go with a companion if needed.

FAQ

How tall is Huangguoshu? How long is the Water Curtain Cave?
The great fall is about 77.8 m high and 101 m wide, the heart of the group. The Water Curtain Cave sits about 40–47 m up the fall, some 134 m long, with several windows, running behind the water. Its form varies with the flow; the wet season brings the greatest volume and power.
Is Huangguoshu crowded on holidays? How do I avoid the peak?
Holidays and summer are busy — book ahead and avoid the late-morning to early-afternoon peak. On the route, go far-then-near: shuttle first to the farthest section, then walk back; do the Water Curtain Cave early. If the day is full, visit nearby spots and return another day.
How should I plan a two-day trip to Huangguoshu?
Day one for the three core areas: Doupotang in the morning, Tianxingqiao in the afternoon, the great fall in the evening (with the Water Curtain Cave as conditions allow). Day two for around the area — Longgong, Tianlong Tunpu or Anshun old town, or Balinghe Bridge and Dishuitan waterfall. Two days suit those who want to explore fully.
How do I book Huangguoshu tickets? Can I buy on the day?
Huangguoshu uses real-name, time-slot booking; book and buy online one to fifteen days ahead, entering in your chosen slot. Peak-season slots are tight and same-day options are often limited, so plan early. Special-credential tickets are usually handled at on-site counters, per on-site requirements.
