Classic one-day route

Shuttle buses link the sights, so a sensible order avoids backtracking. The usual plan is “far first” or “near first” — most visitors choose Tianxingqiao in the morning and the main waterfall in the afternoon.

Suggested order

  • Reach the visitor center early and take the shuttle first to Tianxingqiao (a water-and-stone forest, about 2–3 hours);
  • Then to Huangguoshu Waterfall for a close view, and into the Water Curtain Cave to pass behind the water;
  • If time and energy allow, finish at Doupotang Waterfall, wide and roaring;
  • Take the shuttle back to the visitor center in the afternoon.

Effort-saving tips

  • The whole route relies on the shuttle — be sure to buy a shuttle ticket;
  • The main waterfall area has an escalator/walkway; those with less energy can ride the escalator up and down;
  • The Water Curtain Cave path is wet and slippery — wear non-slip shoes and bring a raincoat;
  • Enter early in peak season to avoid the afternoon crowds at the main waterfall.

Timing

Allow 6–8 hours for a day trip: about 2–3 hours at Tianxingqiao, 2–3 hours at the main waterfall and Water Curtain Cave, and about 1 hour at Doupotang, subject to the day’s crowds and schedule.

FAQ

How should I plan a two-day trip to Huangguoshu?
Day one for the three core areas: Doupotang in the morning, Tianxingqiao in the afternoon, the great fall in the evening (with the Water Curtain Cave as conditions allow). Day two for around the area — Longgong, Tianlong Tunpu or Anshun old town, or Balinghe Bridge and Dishuitan waterfall. Two days suit those who want to explore fully.
How should I plan a three-day Huangguoshu trip?
Day one for the three core areas — Doupotang, Tianxingqiao and the great fall (with the Water Curtain Cave as conditions allow); day two for Longgong, linking Shitouzhai, Dishuitan waterfall and Balinghe Bridge; day three for Tianlong Tunpu or Anshun old town, then Langong’s river-valley countryside or rafting to finish. The three days are full — add or drop stops to taste.
Is Longgong far from Huangguoshu? How to plan?
Longgong shares Anshun with Huangguoshu, about 30 km apart. It features water caves and concentrated karst scenery, usually half a day to a day on its own. Driving or a taxi is convenient; inside, you take a shuttle and a boat into the cave.
Can I cover Huangguoshu, Tianxingqiao and Doupotang in one day?
Yes, with good planning. A time-saving order is usually Doupotang → Tianxingqiao → the main fall; the main fall is the highlight, so give it ample time. For a deeper Tianxingqiao visit or to add the night tour and nearby spots, allow two days for a calmer experience.
