Huangguoshu Waterfall (the heart of the area)
About 77.8 m high and 101 m wide, the main waterfall is the centrepiece of the group and one of the world's best-known falls. When the water is high, spray fills the air and even a sunny day feels like light rain — a scene known as "silvery rain on the golden street." At medium flow the water splits into several strands with distinct shapes, often the most photogenic look.
Water Curtain Cave
Hidden behind the main waterfall at roughly 40–47 m up, the cave runs about 134 m long, with 6 windows, 5 halls, 3 springs and 6 passages. Visitors walk along a path behind the falling water and look out through the curtain — a rare view from inside a waterfall. The floor is wet and misty: bring rain gear and wear non-slip shoes.
Tianxingqiao
About 6 km from the main waterfall, it unites mountain, water, forest and cave in three connected sections — the bonsai area, the cave area and the water-and-stone forest. Dense stone pinnacles and lush plants make "water over stone, stone in water, trees on stone," with the Silver Chain Falls and Star Gorge Falls flanking the stone forest. It is a very different karst world worth seeing in full.
Doupotang Waterfall
About 1 km upstream of the main fall, its crest is about 105 m wide and 21 m high — the widest crest in the group. An open pool sits above, and the water spreads like a curtain of beads. Before floods it gives out a low roar, so it is also called the "roaring fall." It is also a classic film-location spot, combining nature and culture.
Suggested order
- Time-saving: Doupotang → main waterfall → Tianxingqiao;
- Crowd-avoiding: start from Tianxingqiao in reverse;
- Seeing all three takes about a full day; with limited energy, prioritise the main waterfall and Tianxingqiao;
- The sights are far apart — use the sightseeing shuttle to save time and effort.
