Must-shoot spots
- Huangguoshu Waterfall: the front viewing platform for the full panorama, emphasizing its width and thundering flow;
- Water Curtain Cave: shoot the “curtain of water” from inside — a view unique to Huangguoshu;
- Doupotang Waterfall: capture its broad curtain and roaring sound; backlight at sunrise renders mist and light;
- Tianxingqiao: rock, tree and water interweave — use long exposures for streams and the natural bridge.
When to shoot
- Early morning and dusk give soft light and fewer visitors — ideal for keepers;
- After rain, higher water makes the falls most spectacular — but mind slippery paths and mist;
- Midday light is harsh — shoot “god rays” through the mist or compose inside the cave.
Gear
- Wide angle for the full waterfall, telephoto to compress layers of water;
- Bring a waterproof pouch and lens cloth — mist wets lenses easily;
- Long exposures (1/4–1/15s) give silky water; use a tripod or steady yourself on a railing.
