A river-valley countryside

Langong lies in the Guanling area of Anshun, about 8 km from the great Huangguoshu fall and 4.8 km from Tianxingqiao, and some 120 km from Guiyang. Water wraps it on three sides, the riverbank is broad and the current gentle, the surrounding hills rise high and the fields open out, with village houses scattered among old banyans, bananas and kapok — a rare patch of subtropical river-valley countryside among the Huangguoshu areas, and a natural place to unwind.

The Buyi “ganbiao”

People here sing and dance well. On Buyi festivals such as the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, men and women form up on either side of the square, and a young pair who take to each other walk to the fields, under a tree, by the river or a cliff and, back to back, tell their feelings in song — the Buyi “ganbiao,” one of the most vivid scenes of local custom.

Summer rafting

In summer you can raft on the river here. Drifting downstream, green hills, fields and village houses unfold one after another — cool and pleasant, and a good escape from the crowds of the main areas for those who want to get close to the valley.

Planning

  • Location: in the Guanling area of Anshun, next to the main Huangguoshu area; easy to link with the great fall, Tianxingqiao or nearby lesser-known spots;
  • Visit: mostly strolling the valley and taking in the countryside and customs; add rafting if time allows;
  • Tip: follow on-site arrangements and wear a life jacket for rafting; do not enter closed waters; respect local customs in the villages.
