Why go to Longgong
Sharing Anshun with Huangguoshu, Longgong is known for concentrating caves, underground rivers, gorges and peak forests — a "condensed museum of karst landforms." A boat ride deep into the cave, where fantastic stalactites meet dark waterways, is the signature experience.
Suggested order
After entering, follow roughly this sequence: visitor centre → shuttle → Longmen Feipu waterfall → Tianchi viewing terrace → First Longgong (by boat) → Longhuxue → Second Longgong (stay aboard, boat return) → exit. From Longmen Feipu to the Tianchi terrace you can take a lift, avoiding the climb.
Main highlights
- Longmen Feipu: a cave-mouth waterfall bursting out — best seen from the bridge;
- First Longgong: a small boat enters a weird, dark world of stone and water;
- Longhuxue: a dry cave, also thick with stalactites;
- Tianchi / Xuantang: a bright lake outside and an underground-river outlet, a world apart.
Boat and safety tips
- Some passages are low and narrow — duck, follow the crew, and keep hands inside the boat;
- It is slippery and cool inside; bring a light jacket;
- Protect cameras and phones from damp; watch your footing and the gunwale when shooting;
- Longgong is about 30 km from Huangguoshu, usually half a day to a day on its own.
