More than three scenic areas

The Huangguoshu waterfall group comprises many falls of various sizes; only some are developed for regular touring. Around the main areas lie quieter, scenic spots for travellers who want a slower, deeper experience.

Dishuitan waterfall

Dishuitan lies to the west of the main fall, with a large drop and strong flow — one of the more imposing falls of the group. Mind the weather and road conditions, and stay in safe areas.

Shitouzhai: a stone kingdom without bricks

Shitouzhai is a Bouyei village known for stone architecture. Stone houses climb the slope in tiers, built of wood and stone from local materials, sturdy through the years. Here you can sense Bouyei life, try wax-resist dyeing, and join lively festivals at the right time.

Langgong: a subtropical river valley

Langgong sits in a river valley, water on three sides, with broad shoals and gentle flow, ringed by hills and open fields, cottages shaded by banyan and banana — distinctly subtropical. In summer there is water-based fun too.

Trip tips

  • These are mostly open countryside scenes — respect local life, farms and plants;
  • Mountain roads wind — plan your time and avoid driving at night;
  • In the wet season water levels swing — follow on-site safety notices for falls and rafting.
