Why visit Huangguoshu
Huangguoshu Waterfall sits in Zhenning Buyi and Miao Autonomous County, Anshun, Guizhou — a landmark of Guizhou tourism. The main waterfall is about 101 m wide and 77.8 m high; its mighty flow thunders through the valley and has earned it the name “Asia’s Largest Waterfall.” Behind it hides the roughly 134 m-long Water Curtain Cave, which lets you walk “through” the falls — a rare chance to view a waterfall from inside.
“Huangguoshu” is in fact a group of waterfalls: besides the main falls, there are Doupotang Waterfall upstream, the Tianxingqiao (Star Bridge) area downstream, and Dishuitan Waterfall, forming a richly layered karst waterfall landscape.
Highlights
- Huangguoshu Waterfall: the main attraction, about 101 m wide and 77.8 m high — spectacular when in full flow;
- Water Curtain Cave: a natural cave behind the falls’ left side, letting you pass behind the water — a unique experience;
- Doupotang Waterfall: a broad waterfall upstream, its roar like thunder — the widest in the group;
- Tianxingqiao Scenic Area: a karst water-and-stone forest where rock, tree and water interweave — a very different style; bought separately or via a combo ticket.
How to plan
The core area usually takes a full day: visit Tianxingqiao in the morning, Huangguoshu Waterfall and the Water Curtain Cave in the afternoon, then Doupotang if time and energy allow. Shuttle buses link the sights; in peak season arrive early and book ahead.
