Climate
Huangguoshu has a subtropical climate — neither scorching in summer nor freezing in winter — but it is very humid, and mist hangs around the falls year-round. The rainy season (May–September) brings concentrated rain; check the day’s forecast before you go.
Spring
Wet and humid, cool in the mornings and evenings. Bring rain gear, a light jacket and non-slip shoes.
Summer
- Cool and rainy — the fullest flow and most spectacular falls, but also the season you are most likely to be soaked by mist;
- Bring a raincoat (more practical than an umbrella), quick-dry clothing and non-slip shoes.
Autumn
Clear and crisp with moderate flow — a comfortable season for photos and viewing. Day–night temperature swings are larger, so keep a jacket handy.
Winter
- Cold with fewer visitors and lower flow, giving the falls a different charm;
- The cave is slippery — stay warm and mind your footing.
What to bring
- Original ID card (real-name entry);
- A raincoat or waterproof jacket (essential for the Water Curtain Cave);
- Non-slip shoes, a waterproof phone pouch and plenty of water.
